Your Neighborhood Guide to Outdoor Adventures Near Oleta River State Park

One of the many perks of life at SoLé Mia is our location. Yes, we’re close to major roadways, daily conveniences, and incredible restaurants, but most notably, our community is mere minutes from Oleta River State Park. With a thousand acres of mangrove forests, waterways, and trails right outside your door, visiting this natural treasure can easily become part of your week. It’s the perfect go-to for days when you just want to check out from your regular routine and be surrounded by nature, rather than another destination you only visit now and then.

This park is known for its beauty and wildlife, and living next to it is just another of the many luxuries you’ll enjoy at SoLé Mia! You’ll never get tired of exploring this incredible natural reserve, but here are a few suggestions to get you started.

What to Expect at Oleta River State Park

Oleta River State Park sprawls across 1,033 acres of natural beauty tucked between Biscayne Bay and North Miami. For a place so close to the city, it feels like another world, with mangrove forests creating natural tunnels of shade, water channels winding through protected ecosystems, and a sandy beach that opens up to views of the bay and the skyline.

Whether you're kayaking through calm estuaries, biking the 15 miles of trails, or wandering through tropical forest with your camera ready, the park is built for exploration. You'll spot wildlife along the way, with blue herons, roseate spoonbills, dolphins, and manatees moving through the water, simply going about their day. The whole place was designed with both nature and people in mind, so you feel less like an observer and more like part of the ecosystem itself.

Spending Time on the Water

After a couple hours exploring the park and admiring your surroundings, you’ll likely feel the water calling to you. The Oleta River Outdoor Center makes it easy to get out on the water without any gear of your own. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards by the hour, with single kayaks running at about $42, tandems $52, paddleboards $45, and canoes $58. The center opens at 9 a.m. daily and closes about an hour before sunset, so you've got plenty of time to get on the water and still make it back before the light fades.

If you're new to the sport, beginner stand-up paddleboard (SUP) lessons run around $40 on Saturday mornings, and guided eco-tours are available when you'd rather explore with someone who knows the area. The waters here are calm and flat, which makes them great for all skill levels, whether you're learning the basics or looking for a familiar paddle. Everything about the experience feels easy and approachable, so you can get on the water whenever the mood strikes.

Living Steps Away from Outdoor Adventure

Oleta River State Park is just minutes from SoLé Mia, so on days you're in the mood for a change of pace, you can spend your time paddling or hiking through the mangroves. If you want to spend time outdoors but are looking for something a little more laid-back, head to Laguna Solé, our resident-exclusive 7-acre crystal lagoon with a private beach and resort amenities.
