The Good Pet Parent: Pet-Friendly Apartment Living in North Miami

Apr 29, 2022

For many people, their pets are members of their family, so finding a place that welcomes them is essential when looking for an apartment. More and more apartments, including many luxury apartments, are now putting out the welcome mat for their tenants’ four-legged family members. However, you should know a few things before making your choice.

Not All Apartments Allowing Pets Are Pet-Friendly

Pet tolerant properties allow pets but don’t include any pet-focused amenities. You’ll find special amenities like an on-site dog park, special walking areas, pet grooming services, and other specialized features catering to pets and their owners.

Make Accommodations for Your Pet When Leaving Home

If you leave your pet home alone while you work or for a long time, you might want to consider pet daycare. Even one day a week in pet daycare for training is beneficial. If this is not an option, there are other things you can do to ensure your pet is comfortable and happy.

  • Stick to a routine: Animals do much better with a routine than in an unstructured environment. Walk them before and after work, feed on the same hours, and keep your habits as consistent as possible.

  • Give them their own space to retreat: If you don’t kennel your pet during the day, make them their own space to nap or retreat. A kennel with a comfy bed and a blanket over the top gives them a feeling of privacy and security where they can rest or retreat when stressed.

  • Keep them entertained: Leaving them some toys, chewy toys for dogs and scratching posts for cats, can help keep them occupied, so they are less likely to get into mischief and destroy your belongings.

  • Provide a little background noise: Leaving a radio or television on low while you are out during the day can help keep your pet from feeling lonely.

  • Get them a friend: If you can handle two pets, you might consider getting your pet a buddy, so they aren’t home alone all day. Just make sure you do some research to find the best indoor dogs or cats. Size, breed, and personality all play a part in how well they adjust to apartment life.

Apartment life with your pet can be a rewarding experience. Changes can be challenging, so moving might be a challenge, but as long as your pet is with you, they will be at home.
